3D Game Development – The Next Generation Game Development

Flash is now an integrated part of Internet and almost all browser are able to show and play flash content. As Flash has become a de-facto standard for internet world the need for developing more and more user friendly games is there. Flash based games have become more popular in recent years and the demand for new games continues to increase. Game Development in flash is quite a cumbersome task as developers needs to have programming skills, designing skills, audio skills along with a good analytical mind.

Before developing any game a proper planning and designing should be carried out in a legitimate manner. Games are very complex pieces of software which are integrated to perform certain tasks. Flash games include several game states and multiple movie clips which are integrated to one or more action script files. Graphical elements are either design in flash itself or embedded from a bitmap or vector images. So before initiating any game development proper planning in writing format should be there because it will make the further development easy for the developer.

Once the design of the game is developed the next average cost to make a video game step would be to create a model i.e. without taking into account how the game looks you have to write the code to check its functionality. The next step would be graphics and audio which should be integrated in accordance with the model. Once all these things are completed you can look forward for the final touches like introduction and adding the preloaders. Even a small flash game is a complicated task for a developer but if carried out in a modular way along with proper planning developer can tackle small games project alone.

In the past few years online gaming has really taken off. Flash games are more popular with gamers than ever before, and there is an ever increasing demand for talented and innovative game developers. If you’re a Flash developer, there are many ways to generate an income from creating flash games.

1. Developing games for clients

This has been my primary income for the past 7 years. You’ll need to have a proven track record, which means building up a portfolio of games, but once you start building a reputation you can earn a good income by designing and developing games for clients. In recent years I’ve created games for such diverse clients as gaming portals, cell phone brands, charities, television companies and even a major league baseball team!

2. Sponsorship

A sponsorship deal usually involves putting a companies logo and branding into your game, and giving them the rights to use the game exclusively (though sometimes non-exclusively) on their website. The amount you’ll earn from such a deal can vary dramatically depending on the game, and the sponsor, and it usually involves one of the big gaming portals.

3. In game advertising

There are several companies which offer in game advertising but the biggest player in the market is Mochimedia with their Mochiads system. Not only do you get a commission for adverts displayed in your games, but you also get access to their network of publishers giving your game more exposure. This can be one of the best ways for new developers to get their work seen.

4. Banner ads or AdSense

Flash games are a huge draw for traffic online, which is why they are in such demand. You can leverage that traffic by hosting games on your own site, and displaying banner adverts or AdSense and earning a commission from the clicks.

5. Game design contests

A number of big gaming portals run regular game design competitions, some with cash prizes. This can be quite hit or miss, but if your game is good you can earn money this way, and again it’s a great way to get exposure.
